English Language

One of the few required courses throughout all formal education from Kindergarten to college is English. Grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, syntax, and writing are essential to be successful in many walks of life from college and job applications to business proposals to simple conversation with peers. With English now being the most spoken language of the world, let alone in the United States, strong communication skills can prove to be a significant asset. In addition to building effective reading and writing skills through interactive tutor-student activities, our English tutors also help our students with proofreading essays, analyzing difficult passages from English text (such as Shakespeare and modern poetry), and explaining grammar and vocabulary. Here is a list of topics that our English tutors typically work on with students, broken down by grade level:

  • Elementary School English: reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, social studies.
  • Middle and Junior High School English: literature reviews, book reports, expository writing, social studies.
  • High School English: complex grammar, research/report writing, proofreading, essay writing, proper citation and referencing/bibliography standards, and literature comprehension.
